Celebrating Native Mussels on Sept. 14th with the Cincinnati Nature Center

Join us on Saturday, 9/14 for TWO great opportunities to learn about some of the most marvelous mollusks living right in our backyards. The Ohio River Watershed is home to some of the highest diversity of freshwater mussels in the world, yet most people are unaware of these amazing animals living inconspicuously in many of our local waterways! We’re partnering with the Cincinnati Nature Center for a mussel-themed creek romp and a fascinating lecture from endangered Species Biologist John Spaeth about mussels and the important conservation efforts aimed at saving these important creatures and their habitats.

Creek Romp: Mussel Madness at Long Branch Farm

Let’s go creekin’! We’re partnering with our friends at the Cincinnati Nature Center for this event. On this guided, in-the-stream hike at Long Branch Farm and Trails, Ohio River Foundation will introduce attendees to rare native mussels. Mussels are incredible and complex creatures that support the health of our local rivers and streams. On our stream hike, we will search for indicator species like mussels, aquatic bugs, crayfish, and fish as well as snakes, green herons, kingfishers, fossils, animal tracks, signs of beaver, and a variety of other water wonders.

Registration required. Date: Saturday, 9/14 from 10 to 11:30 am. Cost: $8/CNC Member, $14/ CNC Non-Member
