Ohio River Foundation was able to plant several native trees in Kingswood Park in Deerfield Township thanks to the generosity of Ameritas and their volunteers. Ameritas donated $5,000 and 23 Ameritas volunteers attended a special volunteer day to plant 32 trees.
Some of the species planted were Swamp White Oak, Gray Dogwood, KY Coffee Trees, Bur Oaks, Red Oaks, False Indigos, Button Bush, Elderberry, Aronias, and Hawthorns. The introduction of these native plants will increase biodiversity and provide critical habitat for wildlife, which will lead to better water quality in our watershed.
Ohio River Foundation has a multi-year contract with Deerfield Township in Kingswood Park for environmental habitat restoration work to make vital ecological hub that will benefit not only Deerfield Township’s local community but the ecology of the entire Tri-State area.
