POSTPONED: Live Staking on Twin Creek

ORF Employee at the Live Staking Event in Nisbet ParkNOTE: Due to possible flooding and high water conditions the event on SATURDAY, MARCH 4 has been POSTPONED

This event has been RESCHEDULED for SATURDAY, MARCH 18 from 10 am to 1 pm.

Help protect stream banks from erosion, prevent pollution from entering our streams, and provide native habitat for birds, fish, and mammals by planting live stakes along Twin Creek!

This large-scale restoration project will improve six miles of riverbank along Twin Creek, which is a tributary to the Great Miami River. Ohio River Foundation and volunteers will plant 10,000 native trees and shrubs along the riverbanks while the trees are still dormant, which will allow them to spring into action within the following few weeks.

Volunteers should dress for the weather, wear waterproof shoes, and bring work gloves if they have them. All tools will be provided. Advance registration is required!

Why is this work important? Plants along riverbanks improve water quality by keeping pollutants out of the water and by helping control erosion, thus reducing sedimentation. As they mature, these riparian plants also provide habitat for streamside birds and mammals and create shade that helps fish and other aquatic species thrive. Restoring the habitats along these tributaries will go a long way toward improving their health, and it will reduce the amount of pollution that makes its way into the Ohio River.

WHAT TO WEAR: Sturdy footwear (waterproof rubber boots or waders if you have them), and a water bottle. Dress for the weather! Be prepared to be in and around the water on uneven or muddy surfaces.

BRING IF YOU HAVE THEM: Work gloves

WHERE TO MEET: Twin Creek – Lewisburg Community Park, 100 Tillman Ln. Lewisburg, OH 45338
