Why this matters: Planting native trees is more than just putting seedlings in the ground — it is actively restoring the natural systems that support the health of the Ohio River watershed and all of us who depend on it. Native trees provide vital food, shelter, and habitat for local wildlife, from pollinators to songbirds to mammals. Their deep roots stabilize the soil, reducing erosion and the amount of pollutants going into our waterways. And like all trees, they capture carbon and help moderate the effects of climate change.

All planting will take place in areas that have already been treated for invasive species. At Kingswood, Ohio River Foundation and dedicated community volunteers have spent years removing aggressive plants that crowd out young trees and disrupt natural habitats. By combining invasive species removal with native tree planting, we are building on that long-term restoration work while strengthening the health and resilience of Kingswood Park.
